Editor's Note
Built between 1882 and 1885 by the governor of Sivas, Halil Hamid Paşa, over the Kelkit River at the entrance to Niksar on the Tokat-Niksar road, this 640-meter-long bridge with 45 arches, masonry piers and a timber deck was named Hamidiye in honor of the sultan. The same telegram notes that the Tokat governor Rauf Paşa and the Niksar district governor Şevket Bey also contributed greatly to the building of this road and bridge. Of the bridge, only the remains of its piers at water level survive today.
