From the inscription on the building's portal we learn that it was built in AH 691 (1291-92 CE) by Sümbül, son of Hacı Abdullah, and named Darü's-Süleha. In his Seyahatname, Evliya Çelebi writes that Sümbül Baba was one of the disciples of Hacı Bektaş-ı Veli. According to Evliya Çelebi, the building was used at various times by the Rifai and Bektashi orders.
