Editor's Note
The Garipler Mosque in Tokat was built around 1074 by Danishmend Ahmed Gazi and is regarded as one of the oldest mosques built in Anatolia after the Battle of Manzikert in 1071. Influenced by Karakhanid architecture and sharing the same plan type as the Degaron Mosque in Bukhara, the mosque's most notable features are its green-glazed brick minaret, which reflects the Danishmendid style, and its stone mihrab dated 1333, one of the oldest original inscribed mihrabs in Anatolia.
