Editor's Note
The Belkıs (Bal Hatun) Mosque in the centre of Suşehri district was built in AH 1138 (1725-26) by Bal Hatun, daughter of Ali Pasha. After the mosque was completely destroyed in the 1938 Erzincan earthquake, the present mosque was built in its place in 1940. There are shops on the western, eastern and northern sides of the mosque. Together with its narthex, the mosque has a rectangular plan, and its body walls and the single-balcony minaret at its northwest corner are built of cut stone. In the main prayer hall, which has a wooden floor and ceiling, two wooden posts help the walls carry the ceiling.
