Editor's Note
It is a historic church in Derekoy, whose old name comes from Potamia, meaning "stream" in Greek. A monumental structure built in 1857, Derekoy Church is significant both for its architecture and for the features of the elements that defined the liturgical arrangement inside it. Although the Greeks who lived here left for Greece in 1922, after 1924 the building was used by Muslim Turks who came from Drama, Kavala, Ioannina, Karacaova, Langaza, and the island of Crete around Thessaloniki. After the Greeks left the region, the Turks who settled here used the building as a mosque until 1972.
