Editor's Note
The building in Bandirma now used as a Teachers' House was built in the late 19th century (probably in the 1880s), during the period when the city went by its old name Panormos, with the contributions of a wealthy Greek merchant, in order to meet the educational needs of the Greek Orthodox community living in Bandirma. As its Greek inscriptions make clear, its original function was that of a "parthenagogeion" - a girls' school belonging to the Greek Orthodox community (an educational institution for girls with a strong religious focus).
