Editor's Note
Built in the 19th century as the mansion of a Greek grain merchant named Isteryanos, the building was a three-story masonry structure with white marble columns and a porch facing the sea. It was used as a headquarters during World War I and later suffered a fire. In 1921 it was rebuilt upon its sound walls in keeping with the First National Architectural Movement. The Ottoman Bank used the building until 1923 and the Bandirma Municipality until 1933. In 1933 it became a middle school. With additions and alterations in 1937 and 1956, the building took on its present appearance.
