Editor's Note
In its general form, the Egridere Open-Air Cult Site of Cybele resembles the stepped altars of the Phrygian region. Like them, it consists of steps carved into the natural rock. This stepped platform must likewise have been built as a means of drawing close to and calling upon the Mother Goddess Cybele. At sites like these, the summit usually bears a stele, a schematic idol, and facades carved in imitation of buildings. At Egridere, however, we believe something different was attempted in their place. At the corners of the topmost step there are four clamp sockets.
