Editor's Note
During the First World War, a training barracks was established in Zara to reinforce the Eastern Front. Several large buildings in the area were rented as a Field Hospital to treat those wounded at the front. The wounded who did not recover were buried in this area, which is still a martyrs' cemetery. Later, the 1st Infantry Regiment was stationed in place of the training barracks. In 1928, the 36th Infantry Regiment arrived to fill the place vacated by the 10th Infantry Regiment, which had transferred to Akşehir in 1927, and remained stationed in Zara for about twenty years. This regiment too was transferred to Ağrı in 1926.
