The structure, which has no inscription giving its construction date, is dated to the 13th century on the basis of its location and its stone mihrab. It lies on the Sivas-Tokat-Amasya-Samsun-Sinop caravan road, one of the important transport routes of the Anatolian Seljuks in this period. The structure has a stone mihrab. The use of cut stone in mihrabs is seen widely in Anatolia up to the mid-13th century. On all these grounds, the Çamlıbel Mosque is dated to the 13th century. The building, in a very ruined state today, has a rectangular plan running east-west. The square-plan prayer hall is covered by a dome with a Turkish-triangle transition.
