Editor's Note

Founded in 1925 by Muharrem Hasbi Bey (Koray), this was the city's first factory built with modern technology. The machinery used in it was brought from Switzerland and was used for the first time in Turkey at the Balikesir Flour Factory. The factory operated actively until the late 1990s. Production then ceased, as the area where the factory stood had come to lie within the city's busy, congested center.
