Editor's Note
This stone is a tangible piece of cultural heritage reflecting the understanding of social welfare in the Gemerek region during the Ottoman period. The inscription reads: "His son Hacı Mehmet AFA, truly devout, Year 1150, Charity for Travelers." Explanations: "Charity for Travelers" was a charitable institution offering free lodging to travelers and those in need. The date Hijri 1150 corresponds to 1737-1738 CE. As for its founder, it was built by the son of Hacı Mehmet Afa. "Doğru Sanki" is one of the Ottoman religious formulas, emphasizing the donor's sincerity and that the work was done "purely for the sake of God."
