Before reinforcements could arrive, Yakup Pasha, the governor-general of Sivas, was defeated by Kalender. Then, forced to retreat after a clash with Deli Hüsrev Pasha, governor-general of Diyarbekir, on the Pasin Plain, Kalender went on to defeat Behram Pasha, governor-general of Anatolia, at Karaçayır.
