Editor's Note
Located within the boundaries of Havuz Village in the Kangal district of Sivas province, the Havuztepe-Aslantaş Mound is one of the important archaeological settlements of the Kangal Basin. The site first drew scholarly attention in 1928 with the discovery of a large basalt Late Hittite lion statue. This find is significant in showing that the area may be linked in particular to the cultural and political structure of the Late Hittite period.
