Editor's Note
Zırha Castle stands on the bank of the Kızılırmak River in the Özvatan district of Kayseri. The castle's history is very old, with its earliest phase reaching back to the Hittites. It is accepted that the castle was first built in that period. Around 430 BC, the region was incorporated into Roman territory. Unfortunately, this important historical structure is today largely in ruins. Photo 1 shows a view of the castle taken from a hilltop in the village of Amarat. The remains can be seen in the area marked in red in the photograph.
