Vekse Kaya Kilise No 1

Editor's Note
It lies 400 metres southeast of Vekse's main settlement, atop a rocky outcrop. The church entrance is in the north wall. It is partly ruined, but in the broken wall we can still see the square exonarthex over which the semicircular vault is superimposed. The projecting wall at the base of the vaults traces a rectangular form that gives the arch profile a kind of "mushroom shape." This combination of arch and impost is quite common in Cappadocian architecture and is used in façade decoration, in the construction of arches and interior vaults, and so on (Teteriatnikov, 1996).
