Editor's Note
The exact founding date of the Surp Garabed Monastery is unknown; the first clearly identified written record of the building appears in an Armenian colophon dated 1206. Located in Efkere, this monastery was regarded as one of the important pilgrimage centers for Armenians throughout the Ottoman Empire. Robert Hewson described it as 'one of the richest, most visited, and most sacred shrines of the Armenian Church.'
