Editor's Note
The Dere Bridge was a single-arched, pointed-arch stone bridge built of cut and rubble stone over the Neslihan Stream that runs through Talas's Harman neighborhood. The bridge's side walls were built using infill masonry technique, and the span of the arch was kept narrow but high. The structure had the character of a typical stream bridge: small in scale, set on rocky ground, and serving local transport needs. When heavy rains turned into a flood in 1935, the bridge was completely destroyed, and its stones were swept away by the floodwaters all the way to the side of the Harman Mosque.
