The Kartallı Kazım Monument, located in Istanbul's Kartal district, was erected in memory of the 16th-century Ottoman seafarer Kartallı Kazım Pasha. Kazım Pasha was one of the most famous corsairs of his time, demonstrating the power of the Ottoman navy in the Red Sea and taking part in many successful naval battles. The monument stands near the Kartal shore, in a position reaching out toward the sea. Built of stone and marble, the structure carries elements of classical Ottoman architecture and is surrounded by sea views and green areas. As an interesting note, the name Kartallı Kazım also influenced the naming of the area and is an important marker of Kartal's maritime past. The monument also bears witness to an age when Ottoman seafaring was at its brightest. On their way to the monument, visitors can also stroll along the nearby coastal promenade and take in the unique views of the Sea of Marmara in a contemplative setting.
