Editor's Note
İshak Castle, the second-largest fortress of Ortahisar, rises 39 m on its northern side and 54 m on its southern face. Researchers date it to the late Byzantine period (10th-11th century AD). İshak Paşa, one of the army commanders of Sultan Mehmed the Conqueror, used this castle for a time as his command centre while marching with his army on Cilicia (AD 1470). The castle is called İshak Castle in reference to him. It is said that an underground tunnel runs between the two castles.
