Story
The Ethnography Museum in Ürgüp offers a living archive of Cappadocia's rich cultural heritage. The museum displays artifacts reflecting the Anatolian way of life during the Ottoman era from the 19th century onward, including hand-woven carpets, traditional pottery, and ceramics. In this historic setting nestled in the shadow of the fairy chimneys, the needle lace, antique bridal veils, and silver jewelry distinctive to the region showcase the artistry of Cappadocian women and enchant every visitor. Some of the handicrafts in the collection were made two hundred years ago, a testament to the cultural depth of this region. During guided tours you can listen to the stories of master craftspeople and learn about the weaving patterns and ceramic techniques Cappadocia inherited from its ancestors. To view the collections in plenty of light, it is recommended to choose the early morning hours for your visit.
