It lies within the town of Büyük Kalecik, attached to the central district of Afyonkarahisar province. It is 12 kilometres from the city centre of Afyonkarahisar. On the second day of the Great Offensive, on 27 August 1922, the 24-year-old Captain Agâh, son of Bayburtlu Ziver Bey, commander of the 6th Company of the 36th Infantry Regiment of the 12th Division, was charged with taking the Kalecik and Kurtkaya region, the only pass leading to Kocatepe where the Commander-in-Chief's headquarters lay, against a far stronger enemy division of 2,500 men...
