Editor's Note
It was built in 1859 to protect the local population, especially young girls, from the raids of Greek brigands who came from Lesbos (Midilli) in 1820. The mansion, notable for its fortified structure, was designed in the "Chios-type dwelling" architectural style. Following the 1923 Lausanne population exchange, when the Greek merchant who owned the mansion left for the island of Lesbos, it passed to new owners. The Koçanlı Mansion was later given to families coming from Greece, Kavala and Diraniç, becoming a three-household apartment divided by traditional walls.
