Editor's Note
An ancient Greek town near Çandarlı, one of the important Aeolian settlements of antiquity. It lay on the Gulf of Elaea (Çandarlı), near the mouth of the river Evenus. With two sheltered harbours it enjoyed considerable commercial advantages and economic power in its day, and it was the birthplace of the academic philosopher Arcesilaus.
