Editor's Note
It stands in Zafertepeçalköy, in the Altıntaş district. On 29 August 1922, Captain Şekip Efendi, commander of the 2nd Company of the 3rd Regiment of the 14th Cavalry Division, leading his company with great courage, captured 20 enemy reconnaissance soldiers in the surrounding defences; as he charged to seize the enemy guns positioned deeper in, he fell as a martyr in this area along with some of his men. One face of the memorial reads: "Erected in memory of the martyrs given by the Turkish Cavalry Corps that charged the Greeks in the Battle of 29 August 1922."
