Editor's Note
The Efsel Ağa Bridge is one of the rare double-arched stone bridges in Bitlis. Bitlis has many single-arched stone bridges, but the only double-arched examples are the Hacı Begiye Bridge (which has been restored) and the Efsel Ağa Bridge. In his Seyahatname (Book of Travels), Evliya Çelebi gives the following account of the bridge: "By the Kösür (Husul) Stream, the Efsel family built a small mosque right beside the bridge named after them (the Efsel Ağa Bridge)." The bridge stands behind Bitlis Castle.
