Editor's Note
The building, to which people have given names such as the "New," "Fresh," or "Grand" Mosque, stands in the center of Malatya, north of the İnönü Covered Bazaar (Aytaç, 1997, p. 54). The New Mosque was built on the same site after the Hacı Yusuf Mosque that had stood here was destroyed in the great earthquake of 3 March 1894 (Şentürk, 1992, p. 12). The part of the old mosque's minaret up to the balcony is still standing. The inscription on the west side of this minaret's base reads AH 1258 (AD 1843). Today's mosque, built of dressed stone, stands on the southern side of the surrounding courtyard.
