Editor's Note
The Kalanlar Bridge spans the Ulu River and is thought to be a work of the Anatolian Seljuk period. Although it bears no inscription or endowment deed, it collapsed during heavy rains in the 19th century and was repaired by Haci Ali Pasha of Ortakoy. The 36-meter-long bridge runs east to west and has arches of varying widths. Over time the municipality carried out improvement works, widening the flood channels and adding a reinforced-concrete channel. Built of dressed cut stone and rough-hewn stone, the bridge has no decorative elements.
