The monument was built on 30 September 2001 at the site of the crash, in memory of the 34 officers, NCOs, and enlisted personnel who were killed in the CN 235 (CASA 235) aircraft that went down on 16 May 2001. The memorial park was created by the Governorate of Malatya with contributions from the 2nd Army Command and the Malatya Municipality, and the land was donated by Şeyho Ertaş.
