There is no inscription on the structure, nor has any information about it been found in the sources. It is therefore not possible to reach a firm conclusion about its construction date or its patron. Considering its building technique, style, and the quality of its decorative elements, the monument appears to belong to the Roman Imperial period and is dated roughly to the 2nd century AD. Indeed, alongside Samosata, Zeugma, and Dura Europos, which began as simple tent camps, Melitene, one of the important crossing points along the Euphrates River line, in the 2nd century AD.
