What Kurt Erdmann wrote about the location: "The han lies in the Tohma Su valley on the Malatya-Darende road near the village of Kalolar. It is thought to be identical with the ruin marked as 'Eski Han' (Old Han) on Kiepert's map. Since its name is unknown, we refer to it by the village's name. The han was visited by F. Taeschner in the summer of 1955 and briefly examined." It lies about 1 km west of the village of Balaban (Esenbey). It is accepted to have been built in the 13th century, during the period of the Anatolian Seljuk State.
