Editor's Note

This six-line Late Hittite inscription stood about 5 km east of the town of Balaban, near the village of Kötükale on the bank of the Tohma-su river. At the start of this century, reaching its location was quite difficult because of the river. Attempts to make a copy of the inscription failed during the Cornell University expedition of 1911 and H. H. von der Osten's effort of 1929. In 1935, however, Ignace Gelb succeeded in photographing the 1.80 m-high inscription. When H. Th. Bossert visited the area in 1954, the entire inscription had been buried under earth because of a newly built road.
