Editor's Note
This is a Roman-period column located in the town of Dikilitaş in the central district of Niğde province. It stands within Dikilitaş, a town that in antiquity lay on the road running from Kayseri to the Cilician Gates (Kilikya Pylasine). Until the early 20th century, that is until the Turkish-Greek population exchange, the town was known by its Greek name Enehil/Anahil and was a mixed Turkish-Greek settlement. It was a lively, continuously inhabited town from the Late Roman period through the Byzantine age and into the Ottoman era.
