Editor's Note
The Topakoğlu Mansion was built in the second half of the 19th century. Although there are differing accounts of who had it built, it is generally accepted that the structure was commissioned by Papa Danil (Father Daniel). Having changed hands over time, the building takes its name from the surname of the family that settled here after the population exchange. Originally serving as a residence, the mansion has now been expropriated by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism. Architecturally, it consists of two storeys and two separate structures. In the basement and ground floor are functional sections carved from the rock, such as a wine press (şırahane) and a linseed-oil press (bezirhane).
