Editor's Note
Built in 1859 under the name Church of the Archangels, the building was closed to worship in 1924 and, in 1949, was purchased by Tahsin Ertaş of Derinkuyu, donated to the Directorate of Religious Affairs, and converted into a mosque. The church's Greek inscription reads: "In the year of Christ 1859, this holy and most beautiful church of the great Archangels Michael and Gabriel was repaired from its foundations, in the time of Emperor Sultan Abdülmecid Han, with the donations of the Christians living in the same village of Malakopia, under the supervision of the chief architect from Chaldia, Kyriako Efendi, son of the priest, and by Neophytos Efendi, Saint of Ikonion. Thanks be to God."
