According to its construction inscription, the mosque was built by Haci Sah Veli Dervis in AH 979 / AD 1571-72. Previously known as the 'Murtazalar Mosque,' it is also called the 'Pinarbasi Mosque' because it stands in the town's Pinarbasi district. In an endowment deed dated 29 Rebiulahir 1321 / 2 July 1903, Murtaza, son of Dervis, made certain endowments to the mosque, which may be why the building came to be known as the 'Murtazalar Mosque.' Surviving to the present with some repairs and additions, the mosque partly retains its original character.
