Editor's Note
The 'Kirik Kilise' (Broken Church), the most important building at the Sar Komana archaeological site datable to the early Middle Ages, was originally a late antique tomb structure dating to the mid-4th century AD, later converted into a cross-shaped church at a period that cannot be precisely dated. The apse at its eastern end shows that the structure was turned into a church in the Late period, which is also the source of its name. Built of cut stone on a rectangular plan, the monumental tomb's dome collapsed after being struck by lightning.
