Editor's Note
This is a double bath (çifte hamam) consisting of two sections, one for men and one for women. The walls were built of roughly dressed and rubble stone, while the dome and vaults were built of brick. Reused (spolia) marble slabs were used for the floor paving. According to the typology developed by S. Eyice based on the hot rooms of Ottoman baths, the men's section is one of the variants of the 'cross-plan type with four iwans and corner cells.' The women's section, on the other hand, has a plan scheme conforming to the 'type with a central dome, transverse hot room, and twin private chambers (halvet).' The men's section to the north is considerably more monumental than the women's section.
