Editor's Note
There is no written source or inscription indicating to whom the tomb belongs. Emir Sasa Bey was one of the Seljuk commanders and the son-in-law of Menteşe Bey, the frontier lord regarded as the founder of the Menteşe Principality. After Menteşe Bey's death, he continued his conquest activities on the Büyük Menderes (Greater Meander) Plain and subsequently on the Küçük Menderes (Lesser Meander) Plain. Tire and Birgi were conquered by him. During the conquest he acted together with Aydınoğlu Mehmet Bey, the subaşı (military governor) of the Germiyanids, but over time a power struggle began over the captured lands.
