Editor's Note
According to its inscription, the caravanserai was built in AH 935 (1528) by order of Suleiman the Magnificent. The inscription reads, in substance: "Sultan Süleyman, son of Sultan Selim, lord of land and sea, ordered the building of this divinely protected edifice in the year 935 (1528). Babuçcuoğlu Ali made it." From this inscription it is learned that the architect of the caravanserai was Ali Babuçcuoğlu Ömer. However, no other work by this architect is recorded in Ottoman sources.
