Editor's Note
This complex was built between 750-753 AH / 1351-1354 CE by Melik el-Adil Sehabeddin Gazi, one of the Ayyubid emirs. It consists of a courtyard surrounded on three sides by porticoes and student rooms, with classrooms, professors' quarters, and a mosque section to the south. The building was constructed of rubble stone bonded with gypsum mortar. Of the two large rooms flanking the iwan on the south side of the courtyard, one was turned into a tomb for Sehabeddin Gazi and his three sons who died of the plague, and the other into a tomb for Sultan Suleyman.
