Editor's Note
These are ceramic panels created in 1984 by the artist Erdinc Bakla, set into the niches on the front facade of the Lapis carpet and jewellery store (now called Matis). As Erdinc Bakla himself recounted, with his permission: "...I made it back then for a carpet and jewellery store called 'Lapis.' Going by the name Matis you wrote, it has either changed owners or changed its name. I found my notes indicating the panel measured 1200 x 450 cm." In Iznik tilework there is a decorative technique known as the "Golden Horn style," used between 1530 and 1600.
