The Sungur Bey Bath must have taken its name from Sungur Bey, who is thought to have been its founder. Although its exact date of construction is unknown, the building is thought to have been built between 1266 and 1284, based on the view that it may have been commissioned by Sungur Bey, the vizier of Gıyaseddin Keyhüsrev II. Evliya Çelebi notes that the bath stood within the inner castle, to the north of the Alâeddin Mosque, adjoining the dârülhuffaz.
