Editor's Note
It was built during the reign of Mahmud II by Arpazlı Hacı Hasan Bey, using masters from Rhodes. Hacı Hasan Bey felt the need to build this structure in order to protect his mansion and his property against the region's well-known efes (folk outlaws), such as Çakırcalı Mehmet Efe and Atçalı Kel Mehmet Efe, the latter of whom had once served under his command.
