Story
It sits on a hill in Esenköy, Nazilli, watching the point where the Menderes and the Akçay meet. The Archaic walls still stand for much of the northern slope, the seating of a Hellenistic theatre is still readable, and a Byzantine fortress crowns the summit. Tumuli on the ridges running north show Lydian burial practice reaching this far south. Roman, Byzantine, Beylik and Ottoman layers follow one another without a break, and under the Ottomans it was the administrative and military centre of the Arpaz beylik. The hill never emptied in two and a half millennia. It only changed hands.
