Editor's Note
Arsameia was the summer capital and administrative centre of the Commagene kingdom, founded in the early 2nd century BC by Arsames, ancestor of the Commagene rulers, on the east bank of the Kâhta Stream, opposite the Old Kâhta Castle. Along the ceremonial way to the south stand a relief stele of Mithras, a stele of Antiochus and Heracles shaking hands set on a ritual platform, and in front of it the largest known Greek inscription in Anatolia. From the site of the inscription a tunnel descends 158 metres into the depths, and a similar rock corridor lies to the west of the inscription.
