Cuce Zeyrek Aga, one of the notable figures of court life during the reign of Murad III, had a mosque built in Besni and established a foundation (waqf) to cover both the mosque's expenses and the salaries of its staff, endowing it with a considerable income. After the relocation of Besni in 1960-1965, the Kursunlu Mosque, like the other buildings, was abandoned to ruin and fell into decay.
