Although the Caglayancerit Grand Mosque is also popularly known as the Kezban Hatun Mosque, the former name is considered more appropriate, since the name Kezban is of Arabic origin meaning liar and carries negative connotations. While the exact date of construction is unknown, an archival document dated 16 Jumada al-Akhira 1227 / 28 May 1812 records that it was built by the benefactress Kezban Hatun. Set on sloping ground, the mosque is arranged as a single storey on its east facade and two storeys on its west facade, with rooms built on the lower level of the west facade.
