Editor's Note
There is no document that conclusively establishes the building's original construction date. In folios 51b, 64a and 74b of the register recorded in the Ottoman State Archives (EV 15024; Akdemir, 2007:115), the building is referred to as the "Hacı Ömer bin Süleyman Bath" in correspondence concerning its trusteeship between 1856 and 1859. From this it is understood that the building existed and was in operation in the mid-19th century, and that its patron was Hacı Ömer bin Süleyman. However, as the sources also note (Provincial Yearbook, 1955; 110), its architectural features and plan layout reveal that the bath is of a much earlier date.
