Editor's Note
The Firdevs Pavilion is located on the south side of the Nusaybin Road in the Savurkapı neighbourhood of the Artuklu district of Mardin province. From the saying about the Artuqid ruler Melik Mansur Necmeddin, that "he would spend the spring at the seat of the Tigris, the summer in the Garden of Firdevs (Paradise), the autumn in Rişmil and the winter in Khwarezm," we can infer that it was used as a summer residence by the Artuqid rulers. The building, with views of both Mardin and Mesopotamia, dates to the 13th century. With its selsebil (cascade) iwan, its belvedere and its garden, the pavilion is one of the important buildings of the Artuqid period and is today used by the Ensari family.
